This is so because we cannot anticipate and plan for all consequences. We can only have intention, prayer and reason insomuch as is possible. Sometimes we choose set aside our own immediate needs to help another because that person needs help and it is our duty to help when and how we can. This is especially important with family. If you felt in your heart that this was your obligation then pray God to teach you how to best learn from it, and give you peace in your heart about the outcome for all involved. It's amazing how what may seem at the time completely counter-intuitive is again the complex mystery of the One who gives us life and love and all things in between to discover like children at play.
